Established in 2003 by Chikao Inomata, Boston Double Reed is New England’s premier destination for all of your oboe needs. Our company’s mission is to provide the highest possible standard of instrument repair services and accessory sales. We take pride in our commitment to quality and excellence.
As a professional oboist, founder Chikao Inomata understands the intricacies of oboe repair and is particularly sensitive to an oboist’s needs. Mr. Inomata’s familiarity with the instrument and its problems has enabled him to maintain an exceptional reputation for providing some of the finest repair services in the country. His repair skills are not limited to fixing the oboe; Mr. Inomata is happy to set up and service your gouging machine and other reed making tools.

We also offer customized, hand-made instrument and reed cases that are designed to protect your instrument and reeds from becoming out of adjustment or damaged.

Chikao Inomata
Chikao Inomata studied the oboe under Seizo Suzuki at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Japan where he recieved his Bachelor of Arts degree. He continued his studies at the New England Conservatory of Music with Keisuke Wakao, Assistant Principal Oboe for the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Inomata has played extensively with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops Orchestra. He has toured in both North America and Europe, and he has played numerous times at Carnegie Hall. He has made recordings with john Williams, Bernard Haitink and Keith Lockhart, and he has played in the Tanglewood Music Festival every year from 1996 to the present. He has also performed in the Grand Teton Music Festival. He was finalist of Boston Ballet, Hartford Symphony Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He has been substitute member of Hartford Symphony Orchestra since 2012. He started to repair the instrument from 1988.
